  • How long will it take?

We do one room at a time, unless of course the project is an open concept space. For the Design Master Plan service from the date of signing the contract to receipt of Final approved design the time-frame is about 4 weeks.

For Feng Shui & Mindful Organise services this will take anywhere from 2-3 weeks depending on client’s ability to move through the stages of this process. Ideally, I prefer if clients can keep the momentum from sign up to completion within 2 weeks.

For Decor & Art Curation, Sourcing service this will depend on the extent of clients existing collection. It is only after curation can we move on to sourcing as necessary to fill gaps. Therefore, on average this usually takes about 3-4 weeks from signing the contract to completion.

  • Do I have a say in the selection of materials & furnishings?

Absolutely. This is why we do an extensive intake process to ensure that all of your aesthetic and functional needs are taken into your account. At Final Presentation of the Masterplan Service and Decor Curation and Sourcing Service we will present to you the final look and individual selections at which point your feedback will guide the Final Design we submit to you.

  • Can I use some of my own furnishings?

We appreciate the opportunity to collaborate with you to incorporate your cherished vintage pieces, heirlooms, or important furniture. These items may inspire our design direction and are an integral part of your personal story. When considering what to keep in your space, remember that existing furnishings form the foundation of interior design. Ensure that you genuinely love the pieces you wish to keep. If you’re content with your current furniture and layout but want a curated touch and to up the character in your space our Decor and Art Curation, Sourcing, and Styling Service might be the better fit.

  • What kind of budget do I need to set?

Design fees are flat fees and does not include the cost of project execution. By working with us at Home and Heart Interiors you’re paying for our design expertise buying back your time for sourcing, figuring out your floorplan, and furniture plan, budgeting etc.

With this in mind you should budget for the Design Services (which we offer), Furniture, Fixtures and Materials based on the design plan or recommendations we provide, we factor into your sourcing budget in preparing our design plans.  Lastly, labour & installation cost depending on the scale of your project.

Execution cost will depend on whether you will be undertaking this yourself or whether contractors are involved. I highly recommend that hard finishes (flooring, wallpaper, tile, backsplash etc) should always be undertaken by a professional.

Liaise with a Tradespeople in your area for installation estimates. Also factor in the cost of buying materials for the project. However, please note that

  • Do you do remodeling?

Renovations involves updating the look & the feel of the space by changing existing hard finishes such flooring, countertops etc. The aim is to maintain the purpose, layout & footprint of the space.

Remodeling however changes the function & structural design of a space. Often this requires removing walls to expand spaces, think re-configuring a kitchen layout or adding square footage with an addition to an existing structure.

We often Design Plans that are suitable for people whose space already functions to suit their needs but their hard finishes need updating and want to do it without the time, financial and bureaucratic hassle of remodeling. We work with renovations only.

  • What is the difference between specify vs source products & materials?

When we specify an item, we're essentially detailing the exact products or materials that will be used in your design. This includes everything from furniture, lighting, and fixtures to fabrics, colors, and finishes. Specification involves providing all the necessary details such as dimensions, materials, colors, and any other pertinent information. This step ensures that every element fits perfectly within the overall design plan and meets your aesthetic and functional requirements.

Sourcing on the ther hand, involves finding and procuring the specified items on your behalf. This usually involves ordering, coordinating shipping and receiving to a third location before it get to the site of the project etc and other logisitics. While we specify the exact products and materials that will bring your vision to life, we do not handle the sourcing of these items.

We provide you with a detailed design plant and you take the reins on sourcing. This empowers you to have full control over the procurement process, allowing you to bring your unique vision to life in a way that suits your preferences and timeline.

  • What specific items can we expect you to specify for our project?

Depending on the needs of the project I will specify from custom-made furniture, bespoke textiles, and soft reatments, handcrafted items made of materials such as glass, ceramics, wood or metal. Think sculptures, rugs, vessels, lighting fixtures, fine art etc.

  • How many items from my project will be sourced from Independent Makers or Artisans?

This will depend first and foremost on the sourcing budget. So it can range from one or two small items to 2-3 large/ more statement pieces. Intentionality as it relates to function and aesthetics are very important to our process.

  • Do you specify antiques as well?

Yes we do. We believe that to achieve a lived-in look we encourage you to incorporate your existing heirloom items. We also do not hesitate to specify vintage and antiques within our design as needed.

  • Do you have contractors you recommend?

We understand how important it is to find the right contractor who you feel comfortable with and trust to bring your vision to life. While we do not recommend specific contractors, by providing you with a detailed design plan, we empower you to have full autonomy in selecting the best contractor who aligns with your needs and preferences. This allows you the freedom to choose someone who you feel confident will execute our vision perfectly.

Your comfort and satisfaction are our top priorities, and we believe that having the flexibility to choose your own contractor will ultimately lead to a more successful and personalized outcome for your project. We are here to support you with a comprehensive design plan, ensuring you have all the tools you need to make your dream space a reality.

  • What if I don’t like the results?

Although we provide online services, we maintain open communications to address and resolve any issues that may arise. It is important to note that for all our services, your candid and transparent feedback is crucial so that we help you bring your vision for your space to life.
